There Will NOT Be Any iPhone 5

So, the Fall iPhone event came and went and Apple introduced the iPhone 4S with everything everybody wanted except for a new design and bigger screen. People wanted the iPhone 5. People are still talking on tech blogs and podcasts about waiting for the iPhone 5. Well, I have bad news for you. You are not getting the iPhone 5 this year, or next year or any other year. There will be NO iPhone 5. Here is Why…

When the original iPhone was released in 2007, the name was simply “iPhone.” There was no special branding or name because it was already so different from every other phone out there.

When Apple released the iPhone 3G in 2008, the name “3G” was to represent the built-in 3G radio technology in the phone that allowed for faster data speeds on cellular networks. The original iPhone only worked on 2G networks.

When Apple released the iPhone 3GS in 2009, Steve Jobs said clearly in the Keynote that the “s” was for SPEED. The 3GS had a much faster processor and more ram for a better user experience and the ability to run all those Apps in the App Store.

When Apple released the iPhone 4 in 2010, the naming suggested that this was the 4th generation iPhone. Count them 1, 2, 3, 4. Now we are in 2011 and Apple did not announce a new iPhone design called the iPhone 5 so we will never see an iPhone 5. The “s” in iPhone 4S probably just stands for speed again because of the dual-core processor upgrade. People on the internet like to speculate that it stands for “Steve” because it was the last product he worked beginning to end on, but that’s just stupid.

The next iPhone will not be the iPhone 5, it will either be called the iPhone 6 or something completely different because they will be on the 6th generation iPhone. The next iPhone may or may not have the teardrop design like in the picture up top from but, Please, Please stop saying iPhone 5, the product name does not and will not exist.

And since I am on a rant, there is no product called the “iTouch.” It is called an iPod Touch.
