Microsoft Previews New Copy Features in Windows 8

August 25, 2011

Microsoft posted a video walk through of some new features in Windows 8 that helps users with large file copy needs. Some users resorted to third party utilities for extra features when copying multiple files and Microsoft hopes this will give users more control.

First, MS has consolidated the copy windows. If you are doing multiple copy operations they now appear in a single window. Second, “we’ve added the ability to pause, resume, and stop each copy operation currently underway” which allows for more control over which operation completes first. Third, they have added real-time graphs to show the copy speed and percent completed of each copy operation that keeps the user informed of the status.

MS has also created an easier to use dialog box for when multiple files have the same names. Users can now “hover over the thumbnail image to see the file path or  double-click it to open it” to make sure that the files being saved are  the correct ones.
