How to Test Your Windows 7 or Vista Computer’s Memory (Video)

August 12, 2011

Sometimes there can be problems with your computer that are unexplained. Application crashes, Windows blue screens and slower than normal performance can all be indicators of something wrong with your system’s memory. Luckily, there is a simple way to test the memory using the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool built into Windows 7 and Vista.

In this video tutorial, I will show you how to test your memory and tell you what to do if you find a problem.

If you find a problem, the best way to continue is to remove one stick of ram and run the test again. If the second test comes back clean, the memory you removed may need to be replaced.

If you can’t start the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool or if you have Windows XP, you can download the Windows Memory Diagnostic application from Microsoft which allows you to burn a CD that you can use to start your computer with and run a memory test.
