Nokia Cutting Off America From Symbian

August 10, 2011

Nokia will not be pushing its latest Symbian phone (or the lone Meego based N9) in the US as there does not seem to be a market for it according to All Things D. Instead, Nokia is actively working to get their first handset based on Windows Phone 7 to market for the US since their commitment to the platform announced in February of this year.

The problem with this is that Windows Phone 7 as a platform has not taken off. Most consumers seem to be content choosing between iPhone and Android based devices. Maybe Nokia, once the worlds largest smart phone maker, can provide enough influence in markets around the world to push Windows Phone 7 into the spotlight and make this a three horse race.
